When we think about Menopause it is often surrounded by things we have hear or things that we imagine to be associated with the menopause, which can be daunting and quite confusing when you first start to think about this stage in life.
It can feel like there is so much information and noise floating around and you’re not sure what is actual fact, and what are old wives tales that have been created by the unknowing or people who simply do not have the correct information.
Below are a few myths and facts that I have come across, which will hopefully help break down some of the information.

Myths:
- Hot flushes are the first sign of the menopause
- Menopause start at 50+
- Menopause is a disease·
- You no longer have a sexlife·
- Symptoms are physical only·
- Weight gain is inevitable·
- Your periods stop completely at once·
Facts:
- Perimenopause mainly begins when a woman is in her 40’s but can also start earlier which is known as Premature menopause
- Menopause is a natural process in the journey through womanhood
- The first signs of the menopause vary from woman to woman
- You can still enjoy sex, although some women do experience a decline in libido
- Symptoms are psychological, emotional and physical
- Weight gain can be managed through your nutrition and regular exercise
- Your periods gradually become irregular month after month and carry on until you no longer have a period for one complete year which is then classed as the menopause
- The first signs of the menopause vary from woman to woman
